Our co-founder, Professor Kaplan, gave the keynote address at the UNSW Bill Birkett Memorial Lecture 2024 in Sydney on November 12, 2024. He was joined by David Fallon (Chevron) and the discussion was moderated by Elysse Morgan (Stafford Capital Partners).

IEMA Connect 2024: Closing the gap between ambition and action

Our co-founder, Professor Karthik Ramanna, discussed how we can improve the robustness of supply chain data for decarbonization as part of the annual IEMA Connect conference online on October 15, 2024. He explored recent case studies to demonstrate steps companies are taking in practice, as well as the important role of carbon accountants in both product-level supply chain decarbonization and effective implementation of environmental policy and regulatory tools, like CBAM.

Evolving E-ledgers: Conceptual Advances and Real-World Applications

The E-liability Institute successfully hosted its third conference on October 10, 2024. The virtual event brought together over 250 industry practitioners and Institute staff to advance the field of rigorous carbon accounting, exploring important topics like downstream emissions reporting, the accounting basis of CBAM, applications in the healthcare, fossil fuel, and service industries, and the development of a public-use E-liability standard.

Accountability in a Sustainable World Conference 2024

NYC Climate Week – Atlantic Council

The E-liability Institute co-hosted a number of roundtables with the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center as part of NYC Climate Week on September 24, 2024, where our co-founder, Professor Karthik Ramanna, discussed the pressing need for new carbon accounting mechanisms.

Our co-founder, Professor Karthik Ramanna, presented at a private roundtable discussion on September 23, 2024, at the 14th Concordia Annual Summit: Navigating a New Era in New York. The E-liability Institute was a Core Programming Partner during the Summit.

E-liability and the Future of Standards and Technology Workshop

Our co-founder, Professor Karthik Ramanna, and Chief of Staff, Lauren Holloway, presented at a workshop hosted by the IEEE Standards Association on August 1, 2024. They gave an overview of E-liability and discussed the links to climate-related policy and regulation, and the role of technology and standards bodies.

2024 Health Summit at Sundance

Our co-founder, Professor Bob Kaplan, presented on June 3, 2024, on the application of E-liability to the healthcare value chain at the 2024 Health Summit at Sundance, Utah. He set out E-liability as a framework for double materiality that considered carbon and value in value chains. He also participated in a discussion applying E-liability to a medical device value chain, demonstrating how companies can undertake work internally and with their suppliers to ascertain embedded carbon in its products and find lower-carbon alternatives.

2024 Uncertainty, Climate Change, and Policy Challenges Conference

Our co-founder, Professor Bob Kaplan, presented on the current pitfalls of carbon accounting standards and how scope 3 indirect emissions reporting could be replaced with E-liability as part of the 2024 Uncertainty, Climate Change, and Policy Challenges Conference on May 3, 2024, hosted by the University of Chicago’s Macro Finance Research Program and the Brevan Howard Centre for Financial Analysis. He was joined by Stefan Reichelstein (Stanford/Mannheim) and the session was chaired by Michel Madelain (former COO at Moody’s).

Our co-founder, Professor Karthik Ramanna, joined Thomas Becker (VP Sustainability and Mobility at BMW) on a panel at the Economist’s 9th annual Sustainability Week in London on March 6, 2024, on rigorous environmental accounting for net-zero accountability. The panel was moderated by Vijay Vaitheeswaran, Global energy and climate innovation editor at the Economist.

Carbon content measurement for products, organizations and aggregates: creating a sound basis for decision making

On February 21-23, 2024, we supported an international workshop on measurement, reporting, and dissemination of carbon content information at the Deutsche Bundesbank Regional Office in Hamburg, Germany.

Accounting in a Sustainable World Conference 2023

Our co-founders, Bob Kaplan and Karthik Ramanna, and Marc Roston discussed accounting for carbon offsets at the Accounting in a Sustainable World Conference 2023 that took place online during Climate Week NYC, September 20-21, 2023. They laid out the principles of carbon offset accounting, provided illustrative examples of the E-ledger, and discussed the approach’s critical implications on forming effective carbon markets.

Inaugural E-liability Conference

We hosted the inaugural conference of the E-liability Institute, as part of London Climate Action Week on June 27-28, 2023. This was an event dedicated to fostering partnerships to drive global decarbonization through a rigorous system of carbon accounting.

Harvard Business School Alumni Conference: Accelerating Climate Solutions

Our co-founder, Bob Kaplan, led a breakout session on measuring and reducing carbon emissions and taught a new HBS case written about Harvard University’s potential use of E-liability to quantify the benefits from sourcing low-carbon concrete mix for new building projects on May 10, 2023.

World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2023

G20 Summit, Indonesia 2022

In November 2021, our co-founder, Karthik Ramanna, launched the E-liability Institute at the G20 Summit in Indonesia. Giti Tire, one of our first pilots, was featured as a frontier company implementing E-liability to proactively improve its carbon accounting practices and decarbonize its tire manufacturing processes.
